Hamilton publishes a European service price list, so the cost of an overhaul is at least indicated. The black PVD coating is the thing to think about: it is a coating on a soft metal, and coatings wear at the edges.

Titanium plus PVD is the combination to think hardest about: the metal underneath is light and hypoallergenic, but a coating is a consumable — once it wears through at the lug edges, it is a refinish, not a polish.

The NH38A is the movement every independent watchmaker already knows, which is the whole serviceability argument in one line. A 44mm lug-to-lug on a 38mm case is about as wearable as a 200m watch gets.

Citizen surface-hardens its titanium and calls the result Super Titanium, which directly addresses the material's one genuine weakness. Combined with a light-powered movement and a 200m case, this is the watch on this page you are least likely to have to do anything to.

Mineral crystal on a 44mm dial is the trade, and it is a real one — the case will outlast the face. The 22mm lug width is standard and the five-year warranty is the longest here, with the power cell excluded.

Citizen's Super Titanium is surface-hardened, which is the point — plain titanium marks more easily than steel, and this does not. It is the closest thing on this list to a watch you can stop thinking about.
