The unidirectional 120-click bezel is a genuine construction detail rather than a styling one — it can only ever tell you more time has passed, never less.

On paper this is the best value in the category and it is not close: sapphire and a hacking, hand-windable in-house caliber at a price where Seiko still fits Hardlex. Orient's three-year warranty is longer than Hamilton's or Tissot's.

Hardlex is the one gap and it is a visible one over decades. It is also the cheapest of these to put right — a crystal replacement at service time is a modest job on a movement whose overhaul costs $176.

Seiko rates this at 200m as a diver's watch, not merely water-resistant — screw-down crown, screw case back, unidirectional bezel. The 45mm figure is misleading: the cushion case has no protruding lugs.

Titanium, sapphire and 200m from Timex is a genuinely surprising combination, and at 65g it is the lightest watch on this list by a wide margin.

Two caveats worth stating. Plain titanium marks more easily than steel, so it will look used sooner. And Timex's one-year warranty excludes the crystal, the strap and the case — which is most of what you are buying it for.

65 grams, sapphire and 200m is a spec sheet Timex has no business hitting. The one-year warranty is the reason to think about it: everything else here is covered for two to five.

All four criteria met, in a 38mm case with a 44mm lug-to-lug — which makes this one of very few genuinely tough watches that fits a small wrist properly.

The NH38A underneath is the most widely serviced automatic in independent workshops after Seiko's own, so durability here is matched by repairability.

BOLDR states no warranty term and sells direct. We earn nothing on this link and the parts risk is real; the specification is not in question.

The NH38A is the movement every independent watchmaker already knows, which is the whole serviceability argument in one line. A 44mm lug-to-lug on a 38mm case is about as wearable as a 200m watch gets.

Citizen's Super Titanium is surface-hardened, which is the specific answer to the usual complaint about titanium. It resists marking better than steel while weighing considerably less.

The mineral crystal is the frustrating part. On a case engineered this carefully, fitting a crystal that will visibly scratch and cannot be polished is a decision that will show within a few years.
