The short answer

A quick-release strap has a small lever on each spring bar. Pull it, and the bar retracts; the strap comes out of the lugs in a second, with no tool and no chance of scratching the case. The width range is the reason: 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24mm, each tapering 2mm to the buckle. If your watch has an odd lug width, this is one of the few quality straps that fits it.

Integrated quick-release bars, a 316L brushed buckle with a solid tang, and two lengths of the hole-side strap so it fits wrists from 5 to 9 inches between the standard and long versions.

The 19, 21 and 23mm widths are the quiet reason this strap matters. Odd lug widths are where strap shopping gets expensive and slow, and several watches this site rates well have one — a stocked silicone strap in the right odd size removes the problem.

Leather is a consumable, so the right leather strap is one that is cheap to replace and swaps in seconds. This one is hand-selected top grain leather with perimeter stitching and a treated lining, on a 316L buckle.

Standard and long lengths, for 5-8 and 7.5-9 inch wrists. Keep it for dry days; a leather strap and water do not mix.

Can you fit quick-release bars to any watch?

To any watch with conventional lugs and spring bars, yes — which is every watch on this site except the three with integrated bracelets above. The bars sit in the same lug holes as ordinary spring bars. The one thing to check is width: a quick-release strap in the wrong size is exactly as wrong as any other.

What is the best quick release watch strap?

Are quick release watch straps secure?

Yes, used properly. The bar is an ordinary spring bar with a small lever added; make sure both ends click fully into the lug holes after fitting, and give the strap a firm tug before wearing it.

Do quick release straps fit any watch?

Any watch with conventional lugs and spring bars, in the right width. Watches with integrated bracelets — the Tissot PRX and Citizen Tsuyosa among them — cannot take a standard strap at all.

What lug width is my watch?

It is listed on the manufacturer's product page, usually as lug or band width, and in the specification table of every watch reviewed on this site. 20mm and 22mm are the most common.
