Seiko publishes $296 to overhaul a 6R, which at the recommended three-year interval is knowable across the whole life of the watch. Nobody else in this style except Tissot tells you that before you buy.

300m and a 46.4mm lug-to-lug in the same watch is unusual. The extender in the clasp is the detail that says Seiko still expects this one to be dived, not just worn.

41mm across and 12.3mm thick, which for a 200m watch is genuinely wearable, with sapphire and a published accuracy tolerance rather than a description of one. The diver's marking means it went through ISO 6425 rather than the general water-resistance standard.

This is where Seiko starts publishing an accuracy figure (+25/-15 seconds a day) and fits sapphire. A 6R35 overhaul is $296 against $176 for a 4R36 — a real difference, and one you can plan for.

Sapphire at a price where Seiko is still fitting Hardlex, with 200m, a screw-down crown and a 120-click unidirectional bezel. On the specifications that decide whether a diver survives, this watch matches ones costing three times as much.

41.8mm across, 46.8mm lug-to-lug, 12.8mm thick, three-year warranty. What you give up against the Seikos above is 30 hours of reserve, a published accuracy figure and a published service price — none of which affects whether the watch survives.

On paper this is the best value in the category and it is not close: sapphire and a hacking, hand-windable in-house caliber at a price where Seiko still fits Hardlex. Orient's three-year warranty is longer than Hamilton's or Tissot's.

The Turtle case reads 45mm and wears smaller than that, because the cushion shape has no protruding lugs and the strap turns down immediately behind the case. It carries the diver's marking, which most 200m watches do not.

The 4R36 overhaul is $176 — the cheapest published mechanical service in the industry — which over twenty years makes this the least expensive mechanical diver here to own. Hardlex is the compromise, and a sapphire replacement at service time is the usual mitigation.

Seiko rates this at 200m as a diver's watch, not merely water-resistant — screw-down crown, screw case back, unidirectional bezel. The 45mm figure is misleading: the cushion case has no protruding lugs.

Aluminum inserts fade and ceramic inserts chip without repair. Sapphire does neither, and on a small brand where the insert is a model-specific part, that removes the most likely route to a watch that works but looks finished.
