Citizen Promaster

Best Citizen Promaster watches

Promaster is Citizen's professional line: light-powered divers and pilot's watches with five years of warranty. These are the ones worth buying, ranked.

By Sawyer V. · Published

The short answer

The Citizen Promaster Skyhawk A-T scores highest: radio-synchronized, light-powered, sapphire and 200m. For a diver, buy the Promaster BN0200 in Super Titanium; the steel BN0150 and the blue BN0151 are the same watch in steel. The Nighthawk is the one we would skip, for its mineral crystal.

Promaster is the line Citizen builds for professional use — diving and flying — and every model here shares the same core: Eco-Drive light power, 200m and a five-year warranty. The differences are the crystal and the case.

The divers make the line's argument most simply; the Skyhawk makes it most impressively. The Promaster Diver worth-it page and the Promaster vs Prospex comparison go deeper.

Radio-synchronized to 43 cities, with a chronograph, a perpetual calendar and dual time, on light power behind sapphire and rated 200m.

45mm, and a module rather than a movement: when the U680 stops being made, the watch is finished.

It sets itself by radio, runs on light and is rated to 200m behind sapphire — and it is a module, not a movement. When the module stops being made, the watch is finished, however good the case still is.

The Promaster Diver in surface-hardened Super Titanium: 200m, light power and five years of warranty, lighter than the steel version.

Mineral glass, and 44mm across.

Citizen's Super Titanium is surface-hardened, which is the point — plain titanium marks more easily than steel, and this does not. It is the closest thing on this list to a watch you can stop thinking about.

The steel Promaster Diver, which Citizen describes as an ISO-compliant Promaster Professional Diver, on a 20mm strap.

Mineral glass.

The strongest argument for this watch is the one Citizen makes on its own page: nothing to replace, five years of cover. The argument against it is the mineral crystal, which will scratch where sapphire would not.

The Nighthawk is the Promaster pilot's watch many people know: a slide-rule bezel, dual time, 200m and five years of warranty.

It has a mineral crystal on a 42mm dial, and Citizen does not publish its lug width. For a Promaster pilot's watch behind sapphire, the Skyhawk above is the one.

200m, five years of cover and a second time zone from a watch you never wind, service or open. The mineral crystal is the cost, and on a 42mm slab of glass it is a cost you will eventually see.
