The caveat is water: the classic hand-wound Khaki Field Mechanical is rated 50m, so check the rating before you swim.

The styles hub calls the field watch the style that has aged best, because it was designed around reading the time and nothing else. Issued watches were kept small so they would not catch on anything, and that is still why a field watch suits so many wrists and so many situations.
